More Information about Choirs for Children and Youth:

Grades 4-9:

Musical Messengers is for singers in grades 4-9. This group of singers helps to provide leadership for the entire children and youth choir program at Gloria Dei. In addition to having fun, emphasis is on good choral development and learning to read a variety of music. Most of the music is sung during worship services throughout the year. Singers learn proper choral breathing techniques and vowel pronunciation, solfage, and how to read music and rhythm along with other aspects of musicianship and worship leadership. Singers have opportunities throughout the year to learn to play a variety of instruments including hand chimes and Orff instruments.

This group also has the opportunity to go on tour to local care centers and participate in local and regional festivals when opportunities arise. Musical Messengers usually sing in worship one to two times a month.

Grades 1-3:

G3 Kids: Giving God Glory is for singers in grades 1-3. This group has a lot of fun singing, learning beginning music reading, vocal development, and worship leadership skills in addition to learning about the Bible and the church year. Children in this choir usually sing in worship one time a month.

Ages 2 - Kindergarten:

Dei Springs choir is for singers two years old through Kindergarten. This choir works to further develop musical skills and have fun while learning about God. We especially enjoy the seasons of the church year. Epiphany is always a favorite! We turn out all of the lights and sing “This Little Light of Mine” using flashlights and then say flashlight prayers. During Advent, we have the jingle bells ringing and say jingle bell prayers. So much fun!

Songs for all choirs keep the development of the singer in mind and are chosen to coincide with the church calendar and are scheduled to be sung during the 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00 worship services on a rotating basis. New singers are welcome to sit in on a rehearsal or two to learn what choir is all about. Please contact Beth Tobin for more information.

Children’s Musical:

In addition to choirs, Gloria Dei presents a yearly children’s musical which is open to all children in grades Kindergarten - Sixth Grade. Registration is required and opens the end of October. Rehearsals begin the first Friday in January, and continue Fridays and Saturdays through February. The musical is presented during worship the first Sunday in March. Musicals are such a great way for kids to connect and learn more about Bible stories in a fun way! They are great fun for all of us!

Registration information will be posted at www.GloriaDeiKids.org when it becomes available.
