Children’s choirs at Gloria Dei are so much fun and a meaningful part of worship throughout the school year! Thank you, parents for letting your children sing with us, and thank you, congregation for your great support! All children are welcome to sing. They do not need to be members, and new singers are always welcome!
Children’s choirs continue to draw families to fellowship Wednesday nights and offer children an opportunity to explore worship through song. A special thanks to those who help with Wednesday evening meals. Children’s Choir would not be successful without this wonderful hospitality!!
Wednesday rehearsal times for the 2016-2017 school year are:
- 5:10 - 5:40 First - Third Graders
- 5:45 - 6:10 Two year-olds through Kindergarten
- 6:15 - 7:00 Third - Sixth Graders
Rehearsals begin Wednesday, September 14:
No auditions are necessary. Any child who would like to sing is welcome to sing. All rehearsals take place in the Choir Room. Friends are always welcome and parents and grandparents are too!
6:15 - 7:00 p.m. - Choir for Grades 3-6:
Musical Messengers is for singers in grades 3-6. In addition to learning choral literature that coincides with the church year and lectionary, we also work on musicianship and worship leadership skills. There is a good mix of fun along with learning and singing.
This group will once again participate in the Choristers Guild Children’s Choir Festival that will be held at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue, February 4, 2017. This is an annual one-day event where singers gather with other choristers from around the state and spend the day in rehearsals, workshops, and games guided by a nationally recognized children’s choir specialist. This year our clinician will be Robert Hobby, who recently composed the music for the Pope’s visit to America. Bob is so much fun and brings joy to his work with choirs of all ages. The day concludes with festival worship, led by the children and youth, to which the public is invited. It is always a marvelous and memorable opportunity for the youth who attended from Gloria Dei. Everyone is invited to Festival Worship which begins at 3:00 p.m.
5:10 - 5:40 p.m. - Choir for Grades 1-3:
G3 Kids: Giving God Glory is for singers in grades 1-3. This choir has a lot of fun singing, learning beginning music reading, vocal development, and worship leadership skills in addition to learning about the Bible and the church year. Third graders have a choice about which choir they sing in. Sometimes it depends upon which rehearsal times fits the family schedule, and sometimes it is based on a singer’s readiness. Please contact Beth Tobin with any questions or concerns about placement.
5:45 - 6:10 p.m. - Choir for Two’s through Kindergarten:
Dei Springs choir is for two year-olds through Kindergarten. Singers in this choir work to further develop musical skills and have fun while learning about God. Children especially enjoy the seasons of the church year. Epiphany is always a favorite! We turn out all of the lights and sing “This Little Light of Mine” using flashlights and then say flashlight prayers. During Lent, we do prayers around the cross. So much fun!
Singing in Worship:
Songs for all choirs keep the development of the child in mind and are chosen to coincide with the church calendar and are scheduled to be sung during the 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00 worship services. Children’s choirs sing during worship at least once a month, and at the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve worship service. A calendar of when children sing in worship is emailed to families.
Musicals are such a great way for kids to connect and learn more about Bible stories in a fun way! They are open to all children in grades K-6. Rehearsals are typically Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons January through February with the presentation during worship the first Sunday in March. Registration materials are available in October. There is a $50 participation fee to help cover costs and sponsorships are available. Musicals are great fun for all of us!
To all singers:
Thank you all for sharing your gifts and talents with our congregation! It helps everyone give thanks and praise to God when they hear you singing and leading worship! Thank you, thank you!! You are wonderful!!!
Again, new singers are always welcome!! Join the fun!
